Darjeeling

Darjeeling is popularly known as the Queen of Hills. Darjeeling town is the district head quarters of Darjeeling district. It is situated at an altitude of nearly 2134 meters / 7001 feet in the Shiwalik Hills on the lower range of the Himalaya. Darjeeling literally means the land of Thunderbolt. It’s derived from the Tibetan words Dorjee means Thunder and ling means place. It is land internationally known for two of its famous product – The Darjeeling Tea developed by the British in the mid 19th century and the UNESCO world heritage site for the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railways. It was developed by the East India Company during the British rule as the summer capital of India. Darjeeling town is assessable by the Hill Cart Road (National Highway 55) of nearly 80 kilometers / 50 mile long Darjeeling Himalayan Railway nicknamed the "Toy Train" that follows the railway line. Summer and spring seasons are most popular with the tourists. Winters are chilling with occasional snowfall. Darjeeling is one of the most popular hill stations even before the independence of India. There are a quite a large number of hotels and restaurants which offer a wide variety of cuisines.

Kalimpong

This pre historic town is one of the best tourist spot of the region. Though the craze is Darjeeling and Gangtok but Kalimpong has its own charm and beauty. It is situated at an altitude of nearly 1,247 meters / 4,091 feet. It is one of the hill sub division of Darjeeling district. Centrally rather ideally located and is connecting all the major places of interest. View of snow - clad Himalayan ranges tower over the town in the distance. Kalimpong is a hill station in the Indian state of West Bengal. Known for its educational institutions which attract students from all over the world, some of the schools are Dr. Graham's homes, St. Augustine School, St. Joseph Convent and Rockvale Academy, etc. Temperate climate, proximity to nearly all the popular tourist locations, greenery, scenic beauty and the people makes this a charming place to visit. Nurseries, flower especially the wide range of orchids, forest, wildlife and the diversity of the region are the other attraction. It has several Buddhist monasteries perhaps due to its proximity to the Nathula and Jelep la passes, offshoots of the ancient Silk Road making way for the Tibetans and Chinese and other Buddhist people.

Gangtok

Is the capital city of Sikkim. It is one of the most popular tourist spot in Sikkim. It is known for Orchids and Butterflies. People are god fearing and lively. The festivals celebrated are colorful and lively and are mostly monastery based. There are over 140 odd monasteries with Rumtek and Ranka in Gangtok. The city has a cosmopolitan flavor where old charm and hospitality exist along with modern casinos and rock pub. The city center M G Road is the in place with Broad roads, flyovers, posh markets, fast food outlets, discothèques and a Mall to stroll. Guest spends most of their time strolling or shopping in that area. Local places of interest are Government Institute of Cottage Industry, Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology, Do - Drul Chorten, Enchey Monastery, Ridge Park & White Hall Complex, Tashi View Point, Hanuman Tok, Ganesh Tok, Himalayan Zoological Park and Sa – Ngor - Chotshog Centre. Excursions to Rumtek Dharma Chakra Center, Saramsa Garden, Tsomgo / Changu Lake, Menmecho Lake and Nathu La Pass are worth.

Pelling / Pemayangtse

Pelling is known for its panoramic view of the snow - capped peaks of the Himalayan range like mount Koktang, mount Kumbhakarna, mount Rathong, mount Kabru, mount Pandim, mount Narsing, mount Sinialchu, etc. The treat is to watch the greatest of all mount Kanchenjunga. Pelling is nearly 135 kilometers from Siliguri and 125 kilometers from Gangtok by road. The monastery, forested area, lakes and near by tourist spot are quite enthralling. It is rich in history, nature and culture. It is situated at an altitude of 6,800 feet. Pelling offers numerous options like leisure walks, treks, safari, mountain biking, birding and even home stay. Places of interest near Pelling are Yuksom, Hee Bermiok, Darap, Ravangla, Rinchenpong and other places. Khecheopalri Lake, Rock Gardens, various waterfall, Dentam, Pemayangtse and Sanga Choeling monastery, Kanchendzonga falls are the local attraction.
